Korean Hornbeam

My Korean Hornbeam this week.

Blog Post of the Day

This one does it for me due to it’s authors complete honesty and entertainment value 🙂 That and the fact that he’ll be cutting lumps out of my trees in October 🙂

Trident Thinning

My newish Trident Root over Rock needed a little attention. It had some extension growth and the canopy was dense stopping light reaching inner branches. I reduced the extension growth and removed some of the larger leaves from the outside of the canopy.

Before.

after..

Better for the tree I think.

Blog Post of the Day

This one is a belter! Once you get the Google Chrome  translate  going, sit back and read a very well structured post from El Tim [The Team] on what to look for and what to watch out for when buying yamadori. It’s a long post and you’ll maybe want to skip the funnies at the start but stick with it.

Buying Yamadori Guide

Ivy Air layer

I finally got around to layering a little ivy I collected last year from a beach. A bit late but should be fine with this species.

As you can see, the trunk has major issues as it sits, inverse taper and lack of interest.

This part of the tree has loads of interest and was worth layering.

Layer in progress.

Sphagnum moss and cling film

Finished off with black pond liner to help attract heat and encourage rooting.

As usual I’ll keep you posted right here.

Man’s best friend

I was crouching down to say hello to my tunnel frog when Maggie decided she was in need of attention. ‘look at me, Look at me!!’ Just look at those eyes.

I was pleased to see the frog unscathed after I had sprayed the trees with insecticide a few days before. I had banged about a bit before I started to spray to allow them to scuttle under the wooden boards. It obviously worked. They are getting rather used to my presence.
