Hostas Nearly There

David DeGroot came up with the idea for this show at the Pacific Rim Collection, and Monday 25th, June was the setup day. As usual, anything involving Ryan and I involves some ridiculous story getting there. This time we had a meeting with Travel Portland regarding the Artisans Cup of Portland Bonsai Exhibition prior to driving to Seattle. However the meeting was downtown, and we were driving this huge rig chock full of trees for the show and simply could not find a big enough parking spot on the busy streets. So Ryan jumped out and went to give our presentation and I drove the rig around in circles for 45 minutes. Which is not exactly the green, environmentally conscious image us Portlanders like to present.

But I’m writing about our show, and if you’re up in the Seattle area from now till July 15th, 2012, please check it out!

Here’s the…

Kalgoorlie Tree

My sister, who lives in Perth, Western Australia, posted this photo on Facebook recently. She was in Kalgoorlie and took this photo of a tree at Lake Ballard. A strange looking place. I guess she knew I’d like the photo 🙂

You can just see where the tree is to the right at the top of the island.

Some strange Sculptures on the salt flats.

Those Irish get everywhere 🙂

Bonsai Art of Japan Episode 26

It’s been a while, the guys had me worried, but episode 26 is here. Just about the best video you’ll get showing how to repot a bonsai.

The work that has went into filming this, and editing can not be underestimated. Thanks chaps 🙂

The Dye Is Cast

Well, England are out of Euro 2012. Those who know me, will know how I feel about that 😉

The semi Finals lie ahead. As the 4 teams remaining are easy to match up with Bonsai Blogs, I thought I would revisit the head to head blogs.

Click on the flags to see who will be fighting it out this time 🙂

British Summer!?

New Link

I really should remember that many people visiting this blog are not English speakers! By titling a recent post as ‘Big Girl’s Blouse‘, I may well be confusing the issue. Some head scratching going on I’m sure.

What made me consider this is the recent influx of Japanese hits on the blog thanks to a recent connection with Chie , a trainee at Yamato Nursery in Japan and her blog.

Through this I now introduce you to Nekotoban’s Blog. She kindly contacted me after finding me on Chie’s blog. She has recently started her own blog in English. I hope to follow her travels around some of the nurseries in Japan and I think our love of mame and shohin is mutual. Click HERE to visit the new blog. I have also added her to my friends list in the side bar.

Big Girl’s Blouse

Call me that if you like but aren’t Pink flowers pretty 😉

Rose Tinted Glasses

I posted this first one on Facebook recently. I really must be in touch with my feminine side this weather!! More pink flowers.

These are from Chie’s Blog in Japan. Doesn’t need to be a macho Conifer for me.

Loved this one too.

and this accent

Just to even out the post with a conifer 🙂

Mario Update

Another Mario tree update. If  you haven’t got a clue why I’d be doing this, CLICK HERE

First up is his Satsuki Azalea. It’s a variety called Subaru, so I’m told. I always thought the flower colour was equal throughout this tree, as you can see, I was wrong. Nice shades of pink.

Next up is his Japanese White Pine that has budded strongly this year.

His Korean Hornbeam that got a major haircut to produce back budding on some leggy branches. It’s working.

This is his Japanese Black Pine. It had been in a small pot and I thought that while he was away for a while we could get faster development from this tree by putting it in a bigger pot. I opted for a pond basket to improve the roots.

There you go Mario, that’s your tree fix sent all the way to you out in the sands 🙂
