Bonsai Days Munakata Exhibition

I’ve linked to this blog before but I’m doing it again. Not often we have the pleasure of a blog from Japan written in English.

This is the bonsai Days Blog showing two posts with trees presented at Munakata Exhibition.

My favourite is this Pine. Enjoy.

Accent Friendship

I may have mentioned a few weeks back about swapping some accents with Xavier in France. He has kindly mentioned me on his blog showing the Soldanella that I sent in flower.

Here is his Soldanella and the lovely pot that he put it in. If you want to know more about the pot, read his post here. Google translate is my friend 😉

EBA 2013 Links

Been perusing the net trying to find photos from the EBA Exhibition in Audincourt France. If I find any more I link them as well as it looks like a great exhibition with that usual European tilt. Looks like the French Federation of Bonsai have done themselves proud.

Snow Snaps

I would love to claim these as mine, so I will, aren’t they lovely 🙂

I can’t do it! Hugh would kill me 😀 These are recent shots taken by Hugh showing my favourite thing, trees, with my least favourite thing, snow!

Kusamono Links

I spent a little time over the last few weeks splitting, sorting and searching for new varieties of accent plants. As I’m in the mood, I have shared a few links here for some great posts and sites showing kusamono.

Whilst everyone is in Shohin mode I thought I would share these photos from the Sagami Exhibition shared via Yama-chan Blog

Shohin UK The Final Montage

Mark Cooper kindly offered me these photos from the Shohin UK event last weekend. They give an excellent overview of the day and also capture the great atmosphere that everyone refers to about their day there.

Xavier Heaven

Yesterday saw my parcel arrive from Xavier in France. This is the second year when we have swapped accent plants.

Too many plants to name but among them are several varieties of Hosta, Rhodohypoxis, some Sedum, Saxafraga, Mukdenia, Ledebouria, etc. The list goes on. Most were big enough for me to split further and I ended up with 30+ plants! I had to make up more mix!!

Well packed

Well labelled too. I always misplace labels but I spent a little time making sure my splits were labelled too.

One of the Saxafraga

Potted up and in the green house out of the wind and snow flurries!

Thanks Xavier.

Cork Bark Elm Layer

I potted up my Elm air layer a few days back. This was layered back in MAY 2011

Not into a nice shallow pot to help flair out the roots. A little directional wiring done and it’s mostly clip and grow from here.

Happy Birthday ‘Newtowne in the Ardes’

The town where I live is 400 years old today. Well, that’s not specifically true, it was here before then but on the 25th March 1613 it received it’s Royal Charter from King James I.

Yesterday myself and Stephen took a cold walk up Scrabo Hill overlooking the town. A strange walk as half of the hill was clear of snow and the other half was covered in deepish drifts. Here are the usual photos from the walk.
