Here is my Scot’s Pine Cascade. Some will remember it from the repot photos back at the beginning of this blog. It was slow to extend but now appears happy.

And this is my mate Phil’s one. It was spending a bit of time in my tunnel to recover from a repotting. It’s now further on than my own.

The pine cascade looks great. Have you attached it to the rock ?

It has poor roots and I have used some mud rock from Dublin to hide this. I had it planted up with mix and moss to fill the gaps but the birds have sorted that out. I’m not 100% if I’m going to keep the rock or plant a fern to hide the problem. With moss it looks convincing. What do you think?

I like the rock. Maybe just find one that fits alittle better.

It will never be a convincing root over rock. Rock around roots is a poor substitute but will have to do until the next repotting in about 6 years+ 🙂

I accept your comment about root over rock but as a composition I think it looks pretty good natural .Maybe a bit more moss or small fern would enhance it .

Thanks Dave, I had a wee look at it this afternoon. Might try and establish more moss. I’m in no real panic as it is only it’s first year in a proper pot. In case you didn’t see it, here’s the case study about stretching back to 1998. https://bonsaieejit.wordpress.com/case-studies/scot%E2%80%99s-pine-progression-1998-%E2%80%93-2010/
