Opportunist

Not one to miss an opportunity, I woke up a few days ago to hear next door’s gardener ripping out all the plants from their garden. I went out and had a word and managed to salvage three azaleas, a Potentilla and a Euonymous. Azaleas are quite tasty 🙂 They’ve been cut back hard every 2 years for the last 15 years Better with me than in a skip 🙂

Bonsai Eejit on Facebook

Today Facebook decided that my ‘Bonsai Eejit’ profile on their site was not a real person. The locked me out of my profile and my only option was to change it over to a ‘page’. I have done this but as a result I have lost all my  bonsai friends & contacts!! I have now set up a new profile ‘Ian Young (Bonsai Eejit)’ Please add me as a friend on the new profile if you wish to stay in contact by this means.

I am not a lover of Facebook as a company, but it’s not until something like this happens that you realise just how reliant you are on it to stay in contact with friends around the world.

Chinese Elm Airlayer

This Chinese Elm came into my care last year. It had been doing well for a few years and then it had a major bad episode and lost all the bottom branches. All that was left was a nice base, a long straight bit then a few branches at the top. I repotted it out of the original poor soil. After a few months it had leafed out again but was never going to make a convincing tree without lower branches. I spoke to the owner and suggested air layering the top off it and then creating a better tree from the base. Fair play to him, he agreed. I left the layering until March this year and a few weeks back I checked the progress.

Signs of decent roots in the layer.

Potted upDSC_0447 The base had produced some new branches low down due to the layering process, I gave these a very basic wiring to get them going in the right direction. Two trees from one.

Barr na Binne Bui

A few shots taken at Barr na Binne Bui in County Mayo Ireland. Weather was shocking but still a great view. 200 metre tall cliffs with mist shrouded coast, a mystical place.

These folk had a better angle of the whole thing, stunning coast line.

Identity Sought!

Absolutely Magic

These are my new accent pots from Magic Ceramics. This guy just keeps getting better and better! I’ll be adding some new pots to the sales page soon.

Loving these ceramic tiles, great to use as an alternative to the wooden jitta. All that he made have been snapped up but new ones on the way.

My new favourite pot, which I’ve named ‘Alien Egg’. Lourve it!

Another great one.

This one’s just nuts. No idea what to plant in it yet, but inspiration will come.

This one’s got loads of layers to it, can’t wait to pot it up.DSC_0214 (2)
