Agapanthus Snow Pixie

Whilst browsing through the multitudes of stock at Bali Hai nursery last year I decided to give a small variety of Agapanthus a go for a Kusamono. I actually got 3 varieties but this one has come out the best. It’s Snow Pixie. I’m hoping that with a few years in a pot the flower will produce a shorter stalk but if it doesn’t, I think I’m happy with the result. Maturity will help. Not quite open yet, I’ll post again when in flower flower.

Rose Cuttings

I have 3 mini roses acquired from Jose over in Tenerife . At the weekend I decided to take a few cutting to increase my stock. I took a cutting about a week ago and popped it into the humidity layer I put some of my accents on and this was the result. I guest it worked.

I took cuttings from all three roses and potted them into a mix of fine cat litter and fine pumice. Well see how it goes. The parent rose in this kusamono planting is very vigorous as you can see from the roots.

Bonsai Scratcher's avatarScratch Bonsai

This was a garden centre shrub that was bought in January 2012. I’d heard of the variety before and knew of someone else who had a Fuji Cherry bonsai. After having a poke around the based of the trunk at the centre decided that it would be a suitable subject for bonsai training. I wanted to repot before flowering, so I immediately reduced the rootball by approximately half and put it into an Ian Bailie pot that I had spare and really liked.  Unfortunately I failed to take a ‘before’ photo so this first photo shows the foliage reduced significantly too.

Spring 2012 Oversized Ian Bailie pot to accomodate large root mass.

To me the tree looked great but to other more experienced members of the Northern Ireland Bonsai Society pointed out that it looked very much like a shrub and that the tree would need to be significantly reduced…

Miss Me?

Haven’t posted in two days, it’s been a busy weekend for me with family staying and attending the wedding of my Nephew Ryan and his beautiful bride Agata. As a result bonsai has taken a back seat. With all the rain I didn’t even have to water 🙂

Scottie Initial Work

I styled this tree with Ben a few days ago to help explain the use of raffia in making bends. This is the material, not very exciting and needed a little drama added.
