Bonsai Event – Netherlands

I am always happy to promote shows, exhibitions, workshops, etc, here and this one even more so as it’s for Harry, my European scout/photographer 😉

Poster below with all the details, free entry and free workshops,  I wish I could get away to see some of these, maybe in a few years when things quieten down a bit 😉

Rose Show

Setting bonsai aside, I do like getting long to the Rose Show in Belfast each year. The rose gardens are amazing and it’s a really nice family atmosphere. I didn’t get to take many photos this year as I was late getting there to collect my trees from the exhibition. Here are a few of what I did manage to take.

Nashville Bonsai Society Regional Show

Felt the need to share a link to this one. This is a post from Owen Reich’s Bonsai Unearthed giving a full run down on Nashville’s Show.

Don’t be thinking, ‘Another Gallery Show Report’! This one holds much more in it’s reading.

I can draw so many parallels between this show and exhibiting bonsai here at home. Our own club show tries to set the standard for display here but we have so far still to go as regards stands, kusamono etc but we are going in the right direction.

Then you have the old Horticultural Shows with bonsai classes, were you are given a tiny space for numerous trees! Is it worth bothering, or do we seek every opportunity to reach the public? More on that in a forthcoming post.

I digress … just click the image below and enjoy Owen’s take on showing bonsai.

NIBS Exhibition – Demo Trees

During the Exhibition last weekend we worked on a few trees as a sort of rolling demo for the public to watch. Sadly I didn’t always get an after photo. I can Hear Phil saying, ‘You Dick!!’

Here’s a few shots I did take.

Ben’s Blue Cedar that fell off the back of a lorry! Really!! Before

After

Prospective New Member Jonny’s Spruce just bought from the Nursery

After, not fine wired just basic selection and thinking about health of the tree.

Phil’s Scots Pine before no after!

Harry’s big Elm before, no after sadly as this got a major pruning 🙂
