I spotted a photo on a Bonsai bark post the other day and it reminded me of a similar one I took back 2002 in Beleek, County Fermanagh [home of Beleek Pottery] It took a day or two to find it but I found it buried in a folder. It’s a little Birch taking root on an old jetty stump out on the Lough.

It was nice to look back at the photos of my kids fishing on the jetty with their Granda. If only they were still that size now!

This is the photo that got me searching.

Loved your shots, Well taken! =)

I can remember being tempted at the time lol, but besides being out of my reach, I thought it looked better were it was. Got to be even better now after 10 years though 🙂

Very cool. 🙂
I agree, the birch looks great where it is. But, food for thought: what are the chances that birch will be left alone indefinitely by those who want to “improve” the landscape? (In the US, the chances would be slim; but maybe not so where you are.)

Hi Steve,
It’s in a hard spot to find on a private jetty, but it will probably only live so long anyway as the stump rots. It’s not a great piece of material either but it would be interesting to go back and see if it’s still there after 10 years, just to see if you are right 🙂
