Shohin Satsuki

I have this lovely little Satsuki at the moment. It belongs to Bertie, one of our club members who exhibited it at our recent exhibition. I have it until he returns from holiday. I couldn’t resist a photo in flower.

Exhibition Gallery

I’m pretty sure I can’t be ar$ed putting all the photos from the Exhibition on here as well as the club site. So here is a link to the gallery, just click on the photo to visit.

Long Day

It’s been a long day at our club exhibition. Met some great people, caught up with some old friends and spent time with a great bunch of chaps, even those who give me abuse about blogging! 🙂

It was a wet day but by mid afternoon we had a pretty good crowd moving through the marquee. Some other other interesting events taking place too. This was my first time watching a Pig Race!

Some great looking Beagles

The pig race, Makin Bacon won!

The gardens

The gold star of the day goes to John who stood out in the rain under a tree passing out cards and getting folk to venture into the marquee to see the trees. A bit of a grim reaper 🙂

Brendan posing

and I have absolutely no idea what these two plonkers are doing!!

Chuhin Maple Update

After Winning an Award at the BSA Exhibition back in March, this Maple came home only to be eaten by some sort of insect. It was given free growth until now to see where it might bud from.

I have lost several branches including many at the apex. Yesterday I decided to remove the dead branches and start the process of rebuilding it back to it’s past level. I think I’m now over the disappointment. I’m posting it here which is a clear sign that I’m moving on. I’m even looking forward to the rebuilding process.

This was it before I did anything yesterday.

Here you can see dead branches in the apex and some of the very strong new growth.

Dead branches removed and the wounds before sealing.

The dead bits.

and the tree as it sits after the work.

A long winding road, having taken a wrong turn, I’m now heading back the right way again.

Dangerous Tree Stump!

Spotted this path closed off on a walk at the weekend!

All sorts of images jumped to mind  🙂

However I’m not sure this was the right stump being referred too.

Happy Snapping

We had a bit of a photo session the other week. Hugh can down to my garage with a better camera and some lighting. The plan was to photograph some trees with a view to submitting them for selection in the Best of British Exhibition next year. You never know a few might be selected but we had good fun anyway taking the shots.

These are some of the trees we shot. Some mine, some Josh’s, some Phil’s and some Stephen’s. Bar the shohin, all show front and back.

Korean Hornbeam

My Korean Hornbeam this week.

Pioneer Tree

I spotted a photo on a Bonsai bark post the other day and it reminded me of a similar one I took back 2002 in Beleek, County Fermanagh [home of Beleek Pottery] It took a day or two to find it but I found it buried in a folder. It’s a little Birch taking root on an old jetty stump out on the Lough.

It was nice to look back at the photos of my kids fishing on the jetty with their Granda. If only they were still that size now!

This is the photo that got me searching.

Beech Buds

My Beech has finally got around to opening.

Pretty in Yellow

Spotted this field of Rape in flower today near Killyleagh County Down.

Not a great spot to stop the car, but worth it 🙂
