Two More To Watch

Parts 3 & 4 in the Peter Warren Tree Critique series from my club’s October meeting.

Club Tree Critique Night

I’ve been wading through video taken during Peter Warren’s recent visit here trying to put some useful and interesting stuff up on Youtube for all to view.

The problem as usual is how to edit this together into small chunks that are watchable. I have had to make some clips longer than I wanted but most will be around the 20 -30 minutes mark. I would have preferred 10 minutes but I just couldn’t leave out bits without making it disjointed.

My biggest problem was the guy behind the camera! Phil did a lot of zooming in on nasal hair, ear lopes etc. And people call me an eejit!! 🙂

Here are the first 2 Parts of the 4 I’ve made from the Friday nights meeting. As I publish them on YouTube and the Club Site, I’ll add them here as well. I have more following that taken during the two days of workshops.

Shohin Black Pine

I’ve shown this one before but I asked Peter Warren for his view on it and we changed the angle a touch and removed two branches. Oh, and we made the back the front 🙂

This was it before wiring. The first one was my chosen front. The main reason for this choice was to hide the chop mark.

This was the back that I had discounted. You can see the chop that I was avoiding.

This was my styling.

Peter said that many people, obviously me included, can get hung up on one particular fault. The chop is hard to see and he didn’t see it as a big problem. He pointed out that the major bend in the trunk was easier on the eye from the chop side. With a slight change of angle and a few minor branches removed….

He had a few minor concerns over the slight yellow tinge. This years rainfall has seen many of the micro nutrients being leeched from the soil. He suggested a feed with seaweed extract and better control of the watering by placing it in the greenhouse for the Winter.

Peter Warren Day 4

Well, there wasn’t really a day 4, it was the day Peter flew home, but we did manage to pop down to Stephen’s House [bonsai Baker] for a look around.

Check out the colour on his Arakawa Maple. The colour had even deepened from the Friday night meeting.

Sunday’s Workshop in Photos

Sunday was a smaller affair with the workshop limited to four of which I was one. Here are the photos. I haven’t added my trees here as I plan to post these with a little more information. As time permits I’ll be putting some video together showing Peter’s thoughts on trees from the weekend. In the mean time, you’ll have to make do with this.

Saturday’s Workshop In Photos

Only getting around to uploading the weekends Photos.

This Gallery is from the Saturday workshop with Peter Warren and shows the action as well as many of the trees before during and after. Participants were a mixture of beginners and hardcore members with a variety of trees both raw and established. If I had time I’d add some text explaining what’s going on but to be honest I’m absolutely shattered!!

I think we can safety say that the weekend was a success and Peter is most definitely worth having along for a workshop.

PW Day One

Peter Warren first day In Photos….

A visits to Phil’s bonsai, or are they Frankies?! 🙂

And then some snaps of the meeting. 30+ members turned up for what was a great night.  Some great shots of Peter break dancing. 😆 Roll on the Workshops.

House Guest

Peter Warren arrives in Northern Ireland for the first time today, and I have the pleasure of having him as a house guest until Monday.

He’ll be doing a talk/tree critique at the club tonight for the members and then my garage will be put to full use on Saturday and Sunday with workshops. The camera will be out as usual and so will the camcorder. I’m sure he will be on his best behaviour 😉

I’ll endeavour to keep the blog up-to-date with the goings on, but as you can imagine, it’ll be a busy few days for me to. As I know my wife will read this, I just want to thank her for putting up with all these hairy-arsed bonsai folk appearing in the house, not you Peter, I’m sure yours is peachy 😆

Peter working hard. hope he’s not expecting material like that here!!

Peter Warren Shout Out!!

I’m Famous 😆

Two more videos just uploaded by ofbonsai Magazine. These two have Peter Warren doing the initial styling  on a big Spruce at a demo in Chicago.

I will say that Peter’s demo’s are certainly all about being a teaching experience. Most would struggle to fill 2hours 30 minutes talking and styling at the same time.

However, at one point he did stray from the tree to give my good self a mention. Rather embarrassing really but at least I have it on tape that someone actually likes me !! If you don’t want to listen to all his pearls of wisdom you can skip straight to this best bit at 45 minutes into Part 2. 🙂

PART 1

PART 2

Not quite posted within minutes Peter but not too shabby either 😆  Wish I could have been there too…

Me stop posting…. NEVER!!

Peter Warren Show Critique Video

I really look it when someone videos these Show Critiques, better than most demo videos. Here’s Perter Warren having a wonder around a show waxing lyrical 🙂 Looking forward to having Peter as a house guest this October, I’m told he’s house trained!

Not sure why it’s in Black & White!
