A Few New Ones

Bonsai folk are great, always willing to swap a few accent plants. Every time Robert Porch visits us over here, he has a tray of accents for me. I end up scrambling around to try and find something for him that he hasn’t got. Not an easy task!!

Here are a few shots I took before the snow a few days ago. The ever increasing collection.

My new Soldanella Minima, loads of growth this year, and then split it 🙂

Another new Soldanella but with a larger flower by the looks of the dead flower stock. Can’t wait to see what it’s like but will be at least a year away now!

and one about to flower 🙂

Another new one that I was told the name of and now I have forgotten!!! Begins with E I think. Know it? Please comment 🙂

Another unknown from Robert, he didn’t have a clue either. I watch it this year with interest lol

and an old one, Coltsfoot starting to show flower heads, one of my favourite Spring accents. Going to try and force it on in the green house for the Spring Show.

In among the accents on the trays is this newly collected Heather.

Alpine Accents

Spotted some Alpines reduced in price from £1.99 to £0.50 at a local garden Centre. Decided they were worth a punt and pick up four that I wanted to try as Accents next year.

I have a soft spot for Armeria and I didn’t have either of these varieties.

Now swapped over to usable pots for display next year.

Even More Pots

Susan, aka SusanFrancescaHunter.com was also a visitor to my home last night and she brought along a new selection of accent pots and her first batch of Bonsai pots. These have now been added to the Accent Pots for Sale Page and also a new page, Bonsai Pots for sale.

Here are a selection of my favourites.

SFH Accent Pots Added

Some more Accent pots from SusanFrancescaHunter added on the Pot Page.

Fuji Autumn Colour

Very disappointed with this Fuji Cherry this year growth wise, but at least it had the common decency to provide a little colour.

Rossi is Red

Accent Autumn Colour, now officially my favourite accent.

SFH Accent #2

This pot was a little more challenging as far as picking a suitable plant. I didn’t have much to choose from. I added two plants, and and happy with this as a starting point. As the plants mature I think it will come together well next year

SFH Accent #1

I mentioned last week that I had acquired a few new accent pots from Susanfrancescahunter. I have finally got around to transferring a few bits and bobs into them to see what they are like. Here is the first one. I planted a fern into the pot with a little moss and lichen under planting. Pleased with the result.

Sneak Pot Preview

On Tuesday I visited Susan, a local Ceramic Artist, who had visited our club show back in June. She showed an interest in both the accent pots and bonsai pots in the display. Not wanting to miss an opportunity we both got talking and Tuesday saw me visiting her studio to collect a batch of accent pots.

We don’t have a single pot maker in Northern Ireland since Jackson Conn stopped making his excellent pots. Now Susan has appeared on the scene, I hope to make this one stick 🙂 As Susan doesn’t have a bonsai background, I was excited to see just what she would come up with after very little direction from me. I was delighted with the results and hopefully the club members will be too when I take her first batch to the meeting this Friday.

Here are two that I’m holding onto to whet your appetite. Watch this space, I will be adding a page of her pots here on the blog for anyone interested  and will be giving you more information about Susan.

This was my favourite one. I love the glaze and design with the tilt to one side. I can just picture this with a fern or hosta.

This is the most unusual one of the batch! I’m sure it’s not to everyone’s taste but I just love it. Haven’t a clue as yet to what will go into it. I love the plaited clay design and the variation in colour on the pot.

Rossii?

I swapped a few accents with Xavier back in the Spring and one of them was this chap. I can’t seem to actually find out more about it. It was labelled Mukdenia Rossi. I was expecting the Rossi to refer to red flowers at some point, but as you can see, there appears to be a red tinge to the leaves starting as we come into Autumn. I have since read that it’s now to be called Aceriphyllum rossii. Anybody know any more about it as an accent?
