One of my purchases in America was a new lens for my camera, Sigma 70-300mm. I haven’t had a lot of time to play with it but took it out into the garden yesterday for 10 minutes to see what the macro function was like on it. I took a few random shots of foliage and anything else that would sit long enough. Here’s the results.

Hi buddy
Looks pretty good,
I was put off the lower end Sigma lenses after seeing a truely awful one being used at my camera club 😦
I still use an old sigma ultra wide angle on my film camera and it produces great results but the zooms
You got a link to a place selling this one so i can have a gander over it

Hi John,

I had planned to get a Tamron lens while I was on holiday but very few places stocked it. I was on the verge of leaving it until I got home and ordering one from ebay, but I spotted this one at a great price. I’m pretty happy with it so far, but my knowledge is limited. My only complaint, and it’s a minor one, is that it’s noisy! 🙂

I hope its a good un for you the results so far are pretty cool
To get the best out of the long zooms especially on Macro use a sturdy tripod and a remote release for your camera. You can pick them up for well under a tenner on fleabay. One last thing that works wonders if you can, engage mirror lock up as this stops the tiny amount of camera shake produced by the shutter as it slams up.
As for noise the quietest ones i have found are the cannon ultra sonic they are just about silent
