Mario’s Japanese White Pine Update

Part of the fun in looking after Mario’s bonsai while he’s working in Dubai is that I can put them up here to show him what he’s missing 😀

The Return of Janet

Both the tree and and sister 🙂

To explain, I dug this Juniper from my sisters garden back in 1995 when see emigrated to Perth, Australia. The tree has become one of my ‘never part with’ bonsai for that reason. Today, Janet returns home for a holiday and I’m pretty sure she’ll check to see if this is still here 🙂

Worth having a look around this Nursery in Korea, some fantastic Hornbeams.

This is the final post about the Korean Bunjae Museum in Seoul (Part 1)(Part 2). The following photos are from the largest green house on the site which was mainly filled with the trees belonging to the owner of the Nursery.

There were literally thousands and thousands of bonsai inside the huge green house.

All the trees were sheltering out the winter under cover due to the low temperatures the area experiences. As a result the green house was quite cramped, In a strange way this was quite good as you really had to hunt around to look at all the tree.

Throughout the collection there were many trees that were a little unusual. Some of these unusual characteristics were due to the fact that they were collected trees and others were grown in ways I was un familiar with.

One such tree was this exposed root forest…

35th Anniversary Flemish Bonsai Association Part 3

The final instalment of harry’s photos, these are from the Marc Noelanders Demonstration. The big Chamaecyparis isn’t the easiest looking demo tree but what Marc gets from it it truly amazing. I remember watching Marc demonstrate back in 1999 at the EBA in Birmingham with similar material. He really  does have a knack for getting the best out of a piece of raw material.

35th Anniversary Flemish Bonsai Association Part 1

Harry’s came up with the goods again. On Saturday he attended the 35th Anniversary of the Flemish Bonsai Association held at   ‘de nationale plantentuin van Belgie’ . As part of the event Marc Noelanders demonstrated on a Chamaecyparis, but more on that in a later post.

Here are the first batch of Harry’s photos.

Snow in April!!

This weather is just unbelievable!!! After a great week of weather we got snow here last night!!!!

For Jamie

Jamie is our Club’s youngest member at 15 years old. He’s also one of my top comment makers here on the blog.

After the last workshop at which he did a lot of repotting, he left most of the trees with me for protection in my tunnel. I thought I would share them here so he can see how they are doing.

This is a raw piece of juniper material gifted to Jamie by Ben. Very generous! This has absolutely bounced in the few weeks that it’s been in the tunnel with a lot of fresh new growth.

This is his Japanese Maple that had a major clear out last year and was repotted in February. Nice new red leaves appearing.

This is a Berberis Stump that Jamie collected himself from a garden. It was a little bigger when he brought it to the workshop but the remaining stump is going to make a nice little tree with some time and proper technique. Jamie has plenty of time to make a great collection of bonsai.

Great post from Peter’s blog showing a Big larch repot!
