Oaks with Mildew

I have 3 oaks on my training benches and two of them have got a bad case of Powdery Mildew during July. Hot and humid weather has helped to get a grip. I’ll be spraying with a fungicide to treat the trees.

    • Hi, Most commercial Fungicides will treat this, just check the label. If you want to treat without chemicals, they say removing the leaves in Autumn so the spores won’t spread with reduce infection the following year. Personally, I just blast them with chemicals 🙂

      • I see 😀
Well, I’m treating my trees with chemicals for about 3 weeks now and without (or very little) effect.
I’ve read that Microsphaera alphitoides is especially sensible to fungicides based on sulphur or pirimidine compunds. But I cannot find any good fungicide containing it.

I just left these trees untouched this year – without any defoliation etc. I don’t want to waken them any more. And I hope that they will be healthy next year.
Thanks for the suggestion regarding leaves.

      • I have heard that Lime Sulphur can be used to treat it. I haven’t tried it but might be worth googling. Would probably need to be at least 10/1 dilute ratio with water. Let me know how you get on if you try it.

  1. Thanks for the photograph – I had noticed the same fungus on some field maple saplings I have and was wondering whether to remove the leaves or not. I’d rather spray now. Ps I enjoyed the Florida photos
