Haw Haw

My Hawthorn Raft didn’t produce too many flowers this year. Not a problem really as it’s a long way to go before it’s the way I want to show it. It dropped most of it’s first flush leaves a week or so ago only leaving the later growth. This made the few haws more noticable.

Autumn Approaches

Autumn is approaching rapidly for a few trees here. A few larch are showing a tint of yellow. A few Hawthorn have already dropped all the Spring leaves and are sitting with only late extension growth.

My biggest disappointment this year has been this Fuji Cherry. It is showing Autumn colour now and hasn’t  extended even a single shoot this year!  It feels like a wasted year. I experimented with defoliation last year and although it responded well with a new flush in Summer 2011, I think this may have resulted in it sulking this year. Lesson learned. Maybe it wasn’t a total waste after all.

360 Photos

I love the way 360 flash images can be made of our trees allowing you to spin the tree around to appreciate it from every side.

Then Hugh from the club sent me a link to these 360 images that are just spectacular! Makes you wonder where technology will take us next.

Click on the images below to view. Some stunning Autumn colour in the first one and the second one makes you want to run and get your yamadori spade 🙂

A stage further…

I posted this Korean Hornbeam last week and as you can see, it’s moved on in its Autumn colour. It should be stripped by the end of next week and ready for Winter protection.

Stephen’s Autumn colour Larch

Another one of Stephen’s trees that I photographed on Sunday. It needs a total rewiring this Winter as many branches have started to rise with the Strong growth. Note the very unusual base. Interesting story behind this tree but I’ll leave that for Stephen to tell in his own time. He’s threatening to start his own blog before the end of the year 🙂

Mario’s Cotoneaster

Thought I would share Mario’s Cotoneaster with you. He’ll be missing all his trees while he’s boiling in Dubai 🙂

It’s showing lovely colour. Mario’s giving me a free hand with the styling of this one and it’s in for a big change in the next few months 🙂

Stephen’s Deshojo Autumn Colour

My friend Stephen’s Deshojo Maple in it’s Autumn garb.

Two Cotoneasters

Two of my Cotoneasters showing the final bits of Autumn colour.

This first one had the apex air layered off this year and will need some major growth next year to fill out the image.

This little mame one changed so quickly I nearly missed it altogether.

Yellow Korean Hornbeam

I had hoped for a little red in this Korean Hornbeam’s Autumn colour this year. It wasn’t to be. Maybe next year.

Maple Final Colour

This is probably the final bit of colour from this Japanese Maple before leaf drop. It never fails to please, colour has been fantastic this year.
