UK Trees – The Threat Continues..

Thought I would share a link to the latest episode of the  BBC’s Countryfile programme which looks at the spread of new diseases across the UK in recent years.

Where does this leave bonsai and imported trees?

Click on the image to link to the BBC iplayer to see the show. Apologies if anyone outside of the UK has problems viewing this.

  1. the pity is that there are some in authority who have long wanted more of a reason to crack down harder on bonsai. In fact amongst the current crop of disease and pest issues, really only Asian Long Horn Beetle has a far east origin and most folk accept that it is more likely to have come in on pallets or packing timber than live trees, in particular bonsai with the relatively small trunk girths ! but in any event it is a good idea for us to focus a bit more on native species for our bonsai , of course we may end up being forced to do that anyway !! though speaking as someone whose business in part depends on bonsai from the far east I would hate to not be able to supply trees from there !
