Accents

I caught up with an old friend this week. Robert Porch is in N Ireland seeing family and called with me. Robert taught me a lot about bonsai and is probably one of the most understated, under estimated bonsai artists in the UK.

He brought a selection of accent plants with him and we managed to do a few swaps.

Some of the trays of accents available.

I got my hands on a dwarf Astilbe.

Hosta, he had about 7 varieties with him!

Petit-arbre.com

One of the best parts of having a blog is the great folk who you make contact with. A week or so ago I got chatting with Xavier from France who has his own blog www.petit-arbre.com [now upgraded to bonsai friends list to the right →] He liked the coltsfoot I had featured and we got to talking, anyway, one thing led to another and I received a parcel yesterday from Xavier containing a selection of Hostas and Rhodohypoxis 🙂 Another parcel is winging it’s way to France with some Coltsfoot and other oddities. This is what Bonsai is all about, or in this case, kusamono 🙂

Pleione Orchid Accent

This Pleione Orchid is emerging and will flower in the next few days. Short lived flower but worth it.

Coltsfoot Accent

Nothing like a sunny day to get the most out of this Coltsfoot accent.

Suteki

Plenty of things impressed me at the weekend and not just the Exhibition itself. I was also delighted to have the opportunity to buy from a few of the trade stands.

My first purchases, albeit small ones, were from Suteki, Simon Haddon, Bonsai monkey. He’s even more names than me 😀  He had a small but packed display and I took up one of his great offers for multi purchases. When I eventually get them planted up, I’ll share the results here.

In the mean time, here’s his stand.

This is Simon’s tree, a Lonicera that won a Certificate of Merit.

BSA Exhibition 2012 – Accents

Going to try and work my way through the photos I have taken over the weekend and add them here is some sort of order.

I’ll start with my favourite accents from the show.

Accent Tidy up

I tidied up a few accents today in case I need any for next weekend. Nothing very exciting but nice in their own way.

To this with a little weeding and a little moss added.

Accents Potted up

I managed to get those Alpines I purchased the other day potted up into a few spare pots.

Here’s how they look now.

Accents for now and the future

A few of my accents are just coming into flower. Typical, as the display was 2 weeks ago. I also purchased a few Alpines a couple of days ago to make into accents. Here’s the photos.

Dwarf Irises

A Rhodoypoxis starting to show, I thought I had lost them all during the Winter.

and the new guys on the block!

Flowering Accent

For the life of me I can’t remember what this one is! It’s true, once you pass 40 the memory goes down hill rapidly 😦
