Rearranging for Autumn Colour

I have moved a few of my trees around so I can appreciate the changing Autumn Colour.

This is the view from my living room window. I wanted to shift out the trees that were past their best, Hawthorn etc, and replace with a few that should give me a nice spread of colour over the next month or so.

Among this lot are 2 Trident Maples, 3 Japanese Maples, a Fuji Cherry, a Beech, a Raulii, A Japanese Larch, a Gingko, a Crab Apple , a Cotoneaster and a Korean Hornbeam. I think that should do the trick 🙂

I had a nice moment today when chatting to a club member. He rang to book a workshop place and in conversation he told me that after seeing my display area above, he went home and over the Summer has been putting up some reed screening to making more of an effort with his own display. I love hearing stuff like that. 🙂 I’m invited down for a look as well. Looking forward to that.

Just about Ripe

Looks like my Crab Apple is just about fully ripe. It was at this point last year that the dog ate the lot!!

There’s a local Flower Show this weekend that the Club supports. This one should go down well with the public.

Trident Colour

Even over the last few days of colder weather I have noticed the colour seeping into a few of my Trident Maples.

First one just starting to change.

Visiting wasp.

This one was defoliated and has hardly a coloured leaf as yet. These red ones are more like late new shoots.

This other one however, is well on the way and has some lovely purple leaves. This one was also defoliated in May.

This Speckled Wood was also grabbing what little sunshine was on offer. He didn’t want to move away into the strong breeze.

Autumn Colour Creeping In…

I noticed a little more colour in the garden today.

This little spiraea is turning lovely shades of pink.

Josh’s Beech Forest is well on the turn now.

This was it 2 weeks ago.

A cotoneaster

and a wild pear.

Still no sign of colour in any of my Japanese Maples, can’t wait of it to kick in 🙂

Autumn Creeping in…

What a strange year it’s been for our trees. I’m seeing signs of Autumn all around the garden and not always where you would expect it.

This is one of my Crab Apples, well on the way to leaf drop.

This is a Beech Forest that belongs to my friend Josh. One of the stragglers still to make it home after the Summer care. If you are wondering what the yellow bit is, it’s a rope off a kids swing that has been wound around the slate edge for a year to allow loose soil from the repot to mesh together.

This is my Hawthorn Raft already dropping leaves, not much in the way of colour though.

This Rhododendron usually only flowers in March. Over the last week or so it’s had flowers opening. They started at the extreme right and have been working their way back along the tree.
