Getting near full leaf drop thanks to a drop in temp and a few days of high winds. I do still have 2 tridents that look like they are 4 months behind though!!
Even the accents are on there way to Winter.
My Dutch friend Harry, who always helps me out with photos from Bonsai Exhibits, obviously knows that I like a nice walk in the woods finding fungi to snap. I do this most Sundays with my dogs in tow.
Well, just to out do me 😉 he has sent me some photos from a recent visit to the Belgium Ardennes where he found many interesting fungi as well as some real life root over rock trees.
When I hear Ardennes I always think Battle of the Bulge, I’m a bit of a history buff as well! Always good to remember those who fought for their country, lest we forget.
Thanks for sharing Harry, I’m always happy to showcase here on the blog. That goes for anyone one else visiting exhibitions by the way 😉
I spotted this tree growing at the edge of St James Park in London just directly behind Downing Street.

It even had an armed guard 🙂

I was asked to put on a small display of trees at a meeting of the Japan Society of Northern Ireland on Saturday and do a short talk.
Myself and Stephen went along on the day, getting there early to set up we were able to have a wonder around the Japanese Garden at the venue.

We then set up a few small displays at the entrance and what could pass as a tokonoma in the living area. The extra trees were placed outside in the garden for viewing during the afternoon.

This chap was keeping an eye on us…

After my talk we got stuck into some fabulous food and it was obvious just what a social occasion this meeting was. Great to see the kids enjoying themselves, and so well behaved too.

Just saw this being shared over on facebook, Herron’s bonsai in the Mailonline, some great Autumn colour. C;lick on the image below to view.
I do hate it though when they write ‘bonsais’ as the plural!!
Hinting a little at Game of Thrones here, but what I’m trying to convey is that I’m seeing signs of Autumn a little earlier this year. A cold Spring followed by our best Summer in a long time seems to have accelerated things a little.

And this Parthenocissus was a little gift from my friend Ben, lovely colours.

Next stop was the Dark Hedges just outside Armoy. This was also a first for me and I was keen to take a few photos. This country road is covered by some very beautiful old beech trees. Allie, my wife didn’t like them though, Dark for a reason, it’s haunted by a Grey Lady. Why is it always a grey lady?
Well, It’s not called Bluebell Wood but it should be this week. This is my local Killynether Wood and yesterday evening after finishing a long week at work, I popped home grabbed the good lady wife and dogs and headed for the trees in the evening sun. Was well worth it.
