Fencepost Cedar

Well that’s what I call it. I’ve played with this tree for years watching it progress slowly. It adds a bit of colour in the display and despite all its faults I still like to stop and look it it, even though it’s usually to figure out what I’d like to change 😂

I have been enjoying the art of bonsai for about five years now.  I recently constructed an eight by ten foot greenhouse and hope to give my tropicals a longer growing season.  Have you had any experience using a greenhouse for your trees?  I'm thinking of putting a 100 watt light bulb inside to keep the temp up on cold days.  It is only eight degrees outside today.  If you have the time I would appreciate your thoughts.  Thanks.

    • Hi, yes I’ve used both greenhouse and Polytunnels here. I’m in the process of removing them and erecting a new larger Polytunnel. They are great for over wintering softer trees if you keep it just above zero with a heater of some kind but I rarely get extreme cold here. My main use is for recovery of yamadori after collection. I have a misting system that mists the foliage for a few minutes every hour and it makes a massive difference to success rate. The new tunnel will have both a watering and misting system installed. Hope this helps.
